Here are a few movies I’m looking forward to this summer:
500 Days of Summer – Wanted to see this when I was at Sundance. Heard it had a standing ovation when it premiered. Curious how they’re going to calculate the 500 days.
Paper Heart – Also wanted to see this at Sundance. The trailer looks better than I thought it might. Did I mention I ran into Michael Cera in Park City?
Moon – Not a big fan of Rockwell and based on the trailer, I think I can guess where the plot is going but it looks intriguing anyways.
Star Trek – I have a love/hate relationship with JJ Abrams. I love some of his stuff. I hate some of his stuff. Some of his stuff I love and hate at the same time. Though the latest trailer is pretty phenomenal. I feel like it might fall into the last category. Just read the comic prequel which is set sometime after the last Star Trek: TNG movie and it strangely seems to validate everything that’s happened in the Star Trek universe. So whether this is a true reboot of the franchise is to be seen.
It has been almost a year since I started this blog and what has changed. Nothing except that I’m not working. Sometimes I think that the word “occupation” is derived from the word “occupied”, simply meaning something to keep you occupied. I haven’t been occupied for many, many months.
I’ve been trying to get out of the IT field ever since I graduated from college. Every time I look for a job, the only opportunities that anyone ever calls me about are IT related and with the economy the way it is, I’m not even getting those calls now. I’m always hoping someone would be willing to take a chance on me but no one ever does. Lots of people dislike their jobs but knowing that you’re not right for a job and not being able to find something else is frustrating. Sometimes, it seems like the only person that understands what I’m going through is my sister, who recently moved across the country to a city where she doesn’t know anyone, hoping that the change in environment would help her figure out her career situation.
Right now I’m looking for a new career, not just another job. But to ease the fears of the people that are concerned about me, I’m willing and available at the moment to do some freelance work either in copy writing, script analyst, Flash development, web content management, or digital video editing. I also make a mean lasagna.
End of bitch, bitch, whine, whine. Going back to watching movies and training videos now.
Where in the world is my sister?
She just left China and is now volunteering her physical therapy services in Vietnam. The more I find out about what she’s been doing, the more I wished I would have went along and documented her trip. Physical therapy is a relatively new field in the medical world and it would have been interesting to see how people acted and reacted to their treatments.
Last month I read that they were remaking The Neverending Story but I never knew that was based on a book. So I went out and read it last month. The book, which even in its translated form from German, is amazingly inventive and well written. There’s definitely another side to the story that could be fleshed out in a remake but would have to be dealt with deftly. This leads to the recent trailer for the next film from Spike Jones, another adaptation for a book about youthful imagination. I was a bit doubtful when I first heard about this project but with Spike Jones at the helm, my cautious optimism was rewarded when I saw the trailer.
Where The Wild Things Are trailer
Also I’ve been savoring the words of The Graveyard Book as read by the author himself on this site, listening to about a chapter week. I don’t think I will ever read another one of his books without hearing his accent in my mind.
